EnergySolutions Announces Contract with Laurentis Energy Partners to Support a New Sorting Facility in Ontario, Canada

Salt Lake City, Utah – December 22, 2021 –  EnergySolutions Canada announced today a contract with Laurentis Energy Partners, a subsidiary of Ontario Power Generation, to provide license support for a new nuclear-materials sorting facility in Kincardine, Ontario.

The facility will be called Western Clean-Energy Sorting and Recycling (WCSR). The purpose of the facility is to sort low-level radioactive materials, such as used worker garments, small tools, mops and rags, to reduce volumes through processing and to maximize the recycling and free release of clean materials.

“Building on our longstanding relationships in the Canadian nuclear business and our deep experience in radioactive materials management, we are extremely excited about this venture with Laurentis Energy Partners to provide our licensing expertise in the operation of the new facility,” stated Jeff Richardson, COO for EnergySolutions.  “Laurentis Energy Partners is an innovator and leader in the clean-energy industry, offering expertise in a wide range of services including nuclear generation, inspections, and medical isotopes. We’re honored to partner with them in this innovative and important endeavor,” added Richardson.

“We are happy to partner with EnergySolutions as we begin construction of the WCSR facility. We appreciate the shared vision of this project and facility to support Ontario’s need for efficient, advanced and innovative sorting of nuclear materials,” said Brad Ellsworth, Project Manager at Laurentis.

A ground-breaking event took place in November and construction is underway. The facility is expected to be in operation in 2022.
