Richard Sexton, a retired President and CEO of Atomic Energy Canada Limited (AECL), has more than 40 years of nuclear leadership experience directing organizations spanning the full spectrum of the industry from reactor startup, plant operations, radiation protection, reactor refurbishment, major facility/site decommissioning, waste management, securing stakeholder and regulatory approval of LLW disposal facilities, license termination and site closure, SMR technical and business case evaluations and R&D laboratory operations. He has an international nuclear industry perspective having held executive level positions in the USA, UK and Canada.

As the President of AECL he successful led the transformation of the Canadian Nuclear Lab (CNL), Canadia’s premier science and technology organization, with a staff of 3,400 and annual budget of $1B, from a government to a privately operated enterprise. Richard is currently the President of Keystone Solutions, a consulting firm supporting clients in the USA, UK, the UAE and Canada. He has been engaged on a range of projects from advice on contracting strategy for the operation of a major nuclear facility, senior executive assessments, organization restructuring, decommissioning planning and execution, SMR deployment, waste management and disposal approaches,
regulatory affairs and indigenous engagement.

As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the Magnox accelerated decommissioning sites in the UK he has international experience shaping new organizations, establishing vision and missions, discharged legal and governance responsibilities, maintained government and stakeholder relationships and has managed a broad spectrum of technical, policy, regulatory, business and high-level management issues. He has detailed knowledge of project delivery, baseline and schedule development, risk management, regulatory requirements, governance and Board engagement and is adept at organizational change management, accelerating work, reducing cost and improving safety performance.

Richard earned an M.S. in Radiological Health Engineering from Northwestern
University and a B.A. in Chemistry from Northern Illinois University.
