Salt Lake City, Utah – – December 5, 2023 EnergySolutions, Inc. today announced that Chuck Kharrl will be joining the company as President of EnergySolutions Nuclear Services (ESNS) and Chief Nuclear Officer (CNO) effective January 8, 2024.
Kharrl has more than thirty years of experience in the nuclear industry, having spent the last five years at Southern Nuclear, leading the governance and oversight, refueling and capital projects organizations. He previously served as Site Vice President at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant and Vice President at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. Kharrl has held senior reactor operator license positions at Palo Verde, Enrico Fermi Nuclear Generating Station, and St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant. He is a graduate of the Naval Nuclear Power School and holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Arizona.
As President of EnergySolutions Nuclear Services, Kharrl will lead this newly established division which will broaden EnergySolutions’ service offerings across the nuclear lifecycle to include ongoing nuclear plant maintenance, modification, capital projects, life extension and new build. EnergySolutions’ President and CEO, Ken Robuck, stated, “We are extremely excited that Chuck has agreed to join our company. With his reputation and breadth of experience, expertise, and relationships within the nuclear industry, we know he will provide the leadership to make our ESNS division successful.”

Kharrl will also be assuming responsibility as CNO for EnergySolutions from current CNO, John Sauger, who recently announced his retirement from the company effective the end of February 2024. “John has been an invaluable asset to our company for the last ten years and I appreciate everything he has done to contribute to the success of EnergySolutions. The recent successful completion of our Zion decommissioning project is just an example of his achievements for our company,” noted Robuck.
