Job Description/Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Loads and packs materials into containers for transportation, functions as a control room operator as required, operates a forklift and other heavy equipment as required and reviews documentation of radioactive materials for completion and accuracy. Operates specialized sorting, segregation, size reduction, treatment, and repackaging operations in strict accordance with procedures. May specialize in one area but will attain knowledge and skills in other areas of operations.
  • Follows all safety rules, regulations and procedures. Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Receives oral and/or written instructions from supervisors. Reads and interprets equipment, operations and procedures manuals, as well as waste processing specifications, to be accountable for activities within assigned areas.
  • Operates machinery as required.
  • Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) up to level A when working in contaminated zones following the company’s health physics regulations.
  • Maintains all logs, manifests, records and reports associated with all operations areas to issue and/or maintain the identity of all materials using bar codes.
  • Receives, unloads, identifies, weighs and processes materials through sorting, shredding, overpacking, sea/land operation, resin, compaction, decontamination, special waste operation, metal melting, incineration, tracking systems operation and demolition support activities.
  • Prepares, seals and inspects containers for containment, reliability and redirect as required ensuring quality and reliability of product integrity.
  • Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly facility inspection rounds to ensure safety systems are within tolerances.
  • Drives tractor-trailers or other rigs to transport radioactive and non-radioactive materials within a local area.
  • Prepares bill of lading for transportation of materials in accordance with Department of Transportation requirements.
  • Reviews, problem solves, performs data entry and quality checks on documentation of radioactive waste materials and outgoing radioactive shipments to ensure data is accurately tracked from receipt, through all operation processes and to final disposition.
  • Generates and reviews radioactive material shipment data to assure compliance with policies, procedures, licenses, contracts and appropriate regulations.

  • Oversees maintenance programs, projects and tasks. Supervises, under direction of the maintenance manager, staff who repair and maintain facilities, systems and equipment and care for grounds and support equipment. Ensures optimal functioning of building systems including mechanical, fire/life safety and elevators. Oversees contractors for facilities renovation projects involving heating, ventilation and air conditioning and electrical and production floor arrangement. Sets priorities for projects and work orders.
  • Implements the Maintenance Program at an EnergySolutions site/facility/project using best industry practices. Participates in the development of goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures. Makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies and procedures. Participates in the implementation of approved policies and procedures. Monitors work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures. These tasks are necessary to ensure smooth company operations and compliance with company policies and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Plans, organizes and monitors maintenance operations. Supervises, reviews and assists with maintenance work carried out by maintenance staff (i.e., skilled tradesmen, helpers and laborers). Performs the work of maintenance staff as required.
  • Establishes schedules and methods for providing facility maintenance services. Identifies resource needs. Reviews needs with appropriate management staff. Allocates resources accordingly.
  • Provides technical assistance to the maintenance manager as requested.
  • Develops and organizes preventive maintenance and safety inspection programs for all facilities, systems and equipment.
  • Inspects buildings to identify maintenance issues such as clogged drains, leaky ceilings and faulty electrical switches. Reports on findings and creates work assignments for maintenance staff. Is responsible for maintaining electrical, plumbing, mechanical and related systems. Maintains HVAC systems as required by location.
  • Coordinates construction projects, remodels and other special projects.

  • Participates in the operations of the Transload Facility. Operates equipment, performs inspections and routine maintenance.  Ensures compliance with EnergySolutions policies and procedures and with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Participates in all receipt, transfer and shipment of materials, containers and gondola railcars.
  • Operates trackmobile and other heavy equipment.
  • Loads and secures railcar/truck equipment properly.
  • Removes and secures fiberglass gondola lids to the railcars.
  • Operates CAT front end loader to load copper concentrate from storage pad into MHF low sided gondola cars.
  • Performs daily cleanup of the facility after each days loading.
  • Performs facility inspections and routine maintenance.
  • Inspects gondola cars to ensure compliance. Checks for leaks, cracks, holes, drain plug in place, etc.
  • Inspects fiberglass lids for holes, cracks, and that it’s secure on the railcar for shipments (clamps).
  • Performs routine maintenance on gondola cars and fiberglass lids.
  • Performs routine maintenance of on-site equipment.
  • Complies with all local, state and federal health and safety regulations and company health and safety requirements.
  • Serves as backup or assistant to Transload Equipment Manager and Transload Operations Manager.

  • Is responsible for understanding and analyzing workplace activities and potential hazards to support initiatives to identify, control and eliminate hazardous conditions that affect workers, property, the environment and the general public. Implements training of employees and managers relative to health and safety policies, procedures and regulations. Ensures compliance with all applicable local, state and federal health and safety regulations and ensures that necessary records are prepared and maintained according to established guidelines. Promotes compliance with required experience modification rate (EMR), total recordable case (TRC) and days away restricted or transferred (DART) established goals.
  • Analyzes workplaces and designs programs to identify, control, eliminate and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical and biological agents or ergonomic factors that involve the impact of equipment design on a worker’s comfort or fatigue. Ensures safe and compliant shipments every time.

Department Description

Is responsible for implementing the Final Status Survey (FSS) Program at a site/facility or within various radiation safety disciplines, including managing staff. Ensures facilities and projects comply with applicable policies and procedures regarding FSS.

Job Duties/Tasks/Responsibilities

· Implements FSS plans and enforces compliance.

· Performs periodic assessments of site License Termination (LT)/ final status survey (FSS) programs, and training of site personnel, to ensure adherence to the Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) for Characterization and FSS, License Termination Plan (LTP) and regulatory guidance with a focus on documentation that may be subject to regulatory scrutiny (e.g., FSS release records, FSS final reports and technical support documents).

· Assures FSS records are generated and maintained in accordance with applicable policies and procedures

· Provides oversight, direction and training to organization staff to ensure all FSS activities related to a site, program, project, function and/or facility process(es) are conducted in compliance with established rules, regulations, policies and procedures and to ensure high quality products and services for EnergySolutions customers.

· Provides pre-job briefings to ensure all personnel understand their work assignments as well as recognizing safety hazards.

· Provides daily supervision and guidance to field survey and sampling crews and performs quality checks of field activities.

· Controls and implements survey sample plan instructions during field activities.

· Ensures survey area/unit preparation and prerequisites are completed (e.g., survey location identification, reference grid layout, identification of working constraints and accessibility needs).

· Ensures all necessary instrumentation and other equipment is available to support survey activities.

· Supports various radiation safety disciplines such as instrumentation, laboratory and health physics.

· Assures samples are taken and maintained in accordance with applicable policies and procedures. Initially evaluates data to determine compliance to applicable action levels and trending.

· Oversees preparation of samples for transfer to on or off site laboratories.

· Interfaces with client and regulators.

· Implements FSS procedures for radiation safety staff.

· Provides training for radiation safety staff to ensure compliance with FSS procedures.

· Implements and maintains Isolation and Control measures for FSS.

  • Performs a wide range of facility, equipment and machine operations associated with an EnergySolutions site/program/ project/function and or facility process(es). Ensures compliance with EnergySolutions policies and procedures and with local, state and federal regulations. Performs operations work as part of a team of semi-skilled and skilled workers (e.g., laborers; decontamination workers; and facility, equipment and process operators).
  • Operates a variety of equipment: (Level 1) hand and power tools; (Level 2) small, fixed-facility (light) equipment; (Level 3) medium weight equipment; (Level 4) heavy equipment and (Level 5) cranes. Decontaminates equipment, machinery and work areas. Uses equipment to perform construction, demolition, material handling, waste treatment and soil remediation work. These tasks are necessary to maintain a healthy and productive workforce, to ensure smooth company operations and to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Monitors and operates equipment using normal, abnormal and emergency operating procedures. Operates equipment within the bounds of the Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) as applicable.
  • Operates equipment under the direction of a Test Engineer, the Test Operations manager or a Shift Operations Manager in support of testing, commissioning and operations as applicable, according to location.
  • Works under the direction of the Operations Foreman as applicable, according to location.

Reports the need for major mechanical adjustments and repairs.
  • Uses machines and equipment to remove, package, store, treat and transport loads of waste materials.
  • Performs cask unloading, hauling and handling tasks.
  • Performs field cask leak testing activities.
  • Inspects shipment rigging and assists in hooking slings/wire rope to crane rigging/hook(s).
  • Helps secure containers. Determines when containers are secure and meet Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Measures, marks and records openings and distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.
  • Loads, unloads and identifies building materials, machinery and tools and distributes them to the appropriate locations in accordance with project plans and specifications.
  • May perform the work of an Operator 1 or 2 as required.

  • Installs, maintains, upgrades and fabricates machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints and other drawings using hoists, lift trucks, hand tools and power tools. Reads blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures. These tasks are necessary to ensure smooth company operations and to ensure high-quality products and services for EnergySolutions customers.
  • Assembles and installs equipment such as shafting, precision bearings, gear boxes, motors, mechanical clutches, conveyors and tram rails using hoists, pulleys, dollies, rollers and trucks.
  • Bolts, welds, rivets or otherwise fastens machinery/equipment to foundations or other structures using hand and power tools.
  • Constructs foundations for machines using hand tools and building materials such as wood, cement and steel.
  • Aligns machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers and plumb bobs.
  • Operates engine lathes to grind, file and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications.
  • Takes measurements to ensure installed machines function at their maximum capacity.
