EnergySolutions in Maryland
The Columbia, MD office is home to 40 EnergySolutions employees. It is the headquarters for the Government Group’s Engineered Systems and Technology Project’s Eastern Engineering Operations and Technology Operations business lines. Our employees provide vitrification and high-level radioactive waste process technology, high-level radioactive waste treatment system design, and specialty waste treatment design and construction. Through this technology high-level radioactive waste is transformed or vitrified into a durable glass for disposal. These services are employed at locations such as the Department of Energy (DOE) Hanford Site in Washington, the DOE Savannah River Site in South Carolina, in Rokkasho, Japan and in the United Kingdom. For over 30 years EnergySolutions has partnered with The Catholic University of America’s Vitreous State Laboratory (CUA – VSL). Through this partnership CUA-VSL tests new technology created and developed by EnergySolutions. Limited tours are available of the CUA-VSL. To schedule a tour contact Brad Bowan at (240) 565-6130.
Giving and Volunteerism
Over the last few years our Maryland employees have donated to a variety of local organizations including the Howard County Food Bank, Baltimore Reads, Route 1 Day Center Homeless Shelter and Talbott Springs Elementary. In 2011 we helped kick off the Peaceful Playground initiative at Talbott Springs Elementary. Our employees supported this initiative through painting the playground and cleaning the school grounds. Most recently, we celebrated Earth Day at GreenFest hosted by Howard Community College. Among other activities, we recycled electronics and participated in the Sierra Club’s tree planting event around the campus pond.
