EnergySolutions in South CarolinaEnergySolutions provides a variety of services in Aiken and Barnwell, South Carolina. Since its opening in 1971, EnergySolutions employees have safely operated the Barnwell Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Facility. The disposal site accepts Class A, Class B, and Class C waste from customers in the Atlantic Compact which includes South Carolina, Connecticut, and New Jersey. Employees at the disposal site average 20 years of service. In Aiken, EnergySolutions has partnered with Parsons and General Atomics to construct, startup, and operate the Salt Waste Processing Facility (SWPF) at the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site. The SWPF provides capability to safely and efficiently pre-treat approximately 37 million gallons of radioactive liquid waste currently stored in tanks at the Savannah River Site. Once treated, the waste is converted to a solid form, borosilicate glass or grout, at existing Savannah River Site facilities for safe storage. Our personnel on the SWPF provide support for testing, operations, maintenance, laboratory operations, facility readiness, training, and nuclear safety. In addition to our work at SWPF, we also have employees whose work supports the company’s Global Commercial and Government groups. Giving and VolunteerismOver the past few years, we have made donations or participated in programs that support organizations such as the American Red Cross blood drives, the Hooked on Fishing – Not Drugs Rodeo, the South Carolina Waterfowl Association, Craigs Pond Heritage Reserve, United Way and the American Cancer Society. Our employees also support the community by serving in the following organizations:
