Job Description/Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Is responsible for inspecting products manufactured or processed by EnergySolutions to ensure compliance with industry and regulatory standards. Oversees vendor performance to ensure acceptance of products and services. Performs inspections to ensure established standards—especially those related to design control, procurement, inspection and testing—are maintained and EnergySolutions customers receive high-quality products and services.
  • Provides quality control (QC) oversight and support to ensure compliance with governing requirements and to help ensure high-quality products and services for EnergySolutions customers.
  • Develops and maintains QC plans, procedures and checklists used during the inspection of fabrication activities.
  • Performs and documents inspections (e.g., dimensional inspections, in-process inspections, receipt inspections and release inspections) of fabricated and/or purchased components.
  • Performs and documents nondestructive examinations (NDE) on fabricated and/or purchased components.
  • Reviews inspection results and completes reports on inspection activities in accordance with applicable procedures.
  • Performs reviews of vendor-supplied documentation (e.g., welding procedure specifications, performance qualification records, NDE procedures, NDE reports, NDE personnel qualifications/certifications and inspection and test plans and procedures) for compliance with design, procurement and procedural documents.
  • Performs independent project surveillances as assigned.
  • Provides direction and guidance to vendors on QC matters.
  • Supports the resolution of nonconforming conditions.
  • Provides direction and guidance to QC Inspector 1 and QC Inspector 2 workers and provide training and examinations for Level 1 and 2 personnel, including certification in approved methods.
  • Responsible for assuring qualified inspection, test, and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) personnel are assigned to inspections. Coordinates with operations to facilitate inspections.
  • Responsible for oversight of adequate implementation on shop floor (e.g., during inspections verifies Worker Protection Standard (WPS), drawing revisions, etc.).
  • Assures receipt inspections are performed. Coordinates with suppliers to resolve QUALITY receipt inspections. Coordinates with operations to facilitate inspections and priority.
  • Assures items are identified, marked traceable, etc., during inspections. Includes traceability to traveler.
  • Ensures QC Team verifies adequate WPS, Welder identification, and filler material during performance of inspections (part of the acceptance criteria for any weld process).
  • Assures inspection, test, and operating status is adequate during performance of inspections.
  • Implements and verifies adequate implementation of disposition, as specified in the Non-Conformance Report (NCR). Applies and removes tags, as appropriate.
  • Assures QC documentation is adequate prior to submittal to the Document Specialist and/or QC Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements/Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Proven ability to read and interpret engineering design drawings, including standard weld symbols
  • Demonstrated ability to properly use various measuring and test equipment to perform inspection, examination and testing activities (e.g., micrometers, calipers, thickness gauges and torque wrenches)
  • Demonstrated ability to set up and calibrate equipment and to interpret evaluation results with respect to applicable codes, standards and specifications
  • Detailed knowledge of developing inspection plans and source verification plans
  • Detailed knowledge of performing vendor evaluations
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, qualify and approve inspection procedures, including establishing and approving nondestructive examination (NDE) techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and AWS codes, standards, specifications and procedures and to designate the specific nondestructive test (NDT) methods, techniques and procedures to be used
  • Ability to operate basic computer programs (for example Word, Excel)
  • Capable of reading Jaeger number 2 or equivalent type and size letters at a distance of not less than 12 inches on a standard Jaeger test chart (with or without correction).
  • Ability to distinguish and differentiate contrast between colors used in the inspection/test method (e.g., Ishihara’s tests for color blindness, or equivalent).

THIS POSITION WILL REQUIRE THE AVAILABILITY TO WORK A ROTATING SHIFT SCHEDULE.

Job Description/Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Operates specialized incineration and processing operations in strict accordance with procedures. Operates a forklift and other heavy equipment as required and reviews documentation of radioactive materials for completion and accuracy.
  • Receives, unloads, identifies, weighs and processes materials through incineration and systems operation activities.
  • Prepares, seals and inspects containers for containment, reliability and redirects as required ensuring quality and reliability of product integrity.
  • Demonstrates familiarization with multiple processes such as Liquid Evaporator System (LES) Operations, Glass Line reactor (GLR) Operations, Water Spray Operations, Oil Processing Operations, incineration and tracking systems.
  • Performs critical maintenance including tearing down and rebuilding the refractory, cleaning the incinerator, auger repair and simple equipment maintenance as needed as well as during planned and unplanned work outages.
  • Performs field operations including Field Readings, Hearth Ash and Fly Ash Changing and conveyor line operations. Troubleshoots issues and ensures ongoing system performance.
  • Follows all safety rules, regulations and procedures. Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Receives oral and/or written instructions from supervisors. Reads and interprets equipment, operations and procedures manuals, as well as waste processing specifications, to be accountable for activities within assigned areas.
  • Operates machinery as required.
  • Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) up to level A when working in contaminated zones following the company’s health physics regulations.
  • Maintains all logs, manifests, records and reports associated with all operations areas to issue and/or maintain the identity of all materials using bar codes.
  • Tracks material using EWT and Work Bench.
  • Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly facility inspection rounds to ensure safety systems are within tolerances.
  • Reviews, problem solves, performs quality checks on documentation of radioactive waste materials and outgoing radioactive shipments to ensure data is accurately tracked.

Department Description

Is responsible for implementing the Final Status Survey (FSS) Program at a site/facility or within various radiation safety disciplines, including managing staff. Ensures facilities and projects comply with applicable policies and procedures regarding FSS.

Job Duties/Tasks/Responsibilities

· Implements FSS plans and enforces compliance.

· Performs periodic assessments of site License Termination (LT)/ final status survey (FSS) programs, and training of site personnel, to ensure adherence to the Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) for Characterization and FSS, License Termination Plan (LTP) and regulatory guidance with a focus on documentation that may be subject to regulatory scrutiny (e.g., FSS release records, FSS final reports and technical support documents).

· Assures FSS records are generated and maintained in accordance with applicable policies and procedures

· Provides oversight, direction and training to organization staff to ensure all FSS activities related to a site, program, project, function and/or facility process(es) are conducted in compliance with established rules, regulations, policies and procedures and to ensure high quality products and services for EnergySolutions customers.

· Provides pre-job briefings to ensure all personnel understand their work assignments as well as recognizing safety hazards.

· Provides daily supervision and guidance to field survey and sampling crews and performs quality checks of field activities.

· Controls and implements survey sample plan instructions during field activities.

· Ensures survey area/unit preparation and prerequisites are completed (e.g., survey location identification, reference grid layout, identification of working constraints and accessibility needs).

· Ensures all necessary instrumentation and other equipment is available to support survey activities.

· Supports various radiation safety disciplines such as instrumentation, laboratory and health physics.

· Assures samples are taken and maintained in accordance with applicable policies and procedures. Initially evaluates data to determine compliance to applicable action levels and trending.

· Oversees preparation of samples for transfer to on or off site laboratories.

· Interfaces with client and regulators.

· Implements FSS procedures for radiation safety staff.

· Provides training for radiation safety staff to ensure compliance with FSS procedures.

Department Description

· Is responsible for field implementation of the Radiation Safety Program. Ensures compliance with company, local, state and federal radiation safety policies and regulations. Monitors radiological work controls and work activities involving radioactive material. Interprets and verifies field data obtained from radiation surveys using the appropriate instrumentation and/or analyses.

· Participates in the Radiation Safety Program by ensuring the safe collection, storage, packaging, transportation and subsequent disposal of radioactive material. These tasks are necessary to maintain a healthy workforce thereby enabling EnergySolutions to reach its performance goals and stay competitive in the marketplace.

· Processes routine incoming radioactive shipments and checks for excessive contamination or dose levels. Performs wipe tests on packages for contamination removal, cleans packages if there is contamination, delivers shipments to approved users, and cross-checks against inventory for approval. Verifies quantity radioactive material license limits. Records new and amended permit information for all radionuclides received. Enters information in the HIS-20 database system.

· Stays current on local, state, federal and EnergySolutions policies and procedures concerning shipment/ transportation of radioactive materials.

· Collects, analyzes and interprets the results of various samples required to ensure compliance with local, state and federal radiation safety regulations and orders and environmental technical standards, guidelines and policies. Creates reports on the results of sample analyses for management and determines necessary corrective actions and compliance. Develops processes to minimize future contamination.

· Conducts area surveys to identify elevated levels of exposure or contamination. Responds to any incident or emergency regarding radionuclides. Maintains proper incident response equipment and supplies.

· Performs calculations necessary to determine radiation levels and radioactive contamination levels and concentrations in areas, in soil, on material, on equipment and in the air.

· Issues radiation work permits and briefs personnel on radiological conditions and work requirements.

· Maintains data for a computer-based radiological work permit system to ensure only properly authorized personnel are permitted access to restricted areas. Monitors and controls personnel and material access to, and egress from, radiologically controlled areas.

· Develops, writes and processes radiation safety procedures, instructions and guidance.

· Operates, issues and calibrates radiological counting and detection equipment and air sampling equipment.

· Performs and documents radiological instrumentation reviews, evaluations and investigations.

· Ensures proper operation and maintenance of radiological controls equipment. Processes/procures material, parts and equipment in support of the site Radiation Safety Program. Maintains equipment supply and availability.

· Participates in emergency preparation drills and emergency responses.

· Provides training and implements monitoring programs to protect personnel from radiation hazards.

· Investigates and documents radiological occurrences and/or other Corrective Action Program issues and events and recommends long-term corrective action.

· Maintains field radiation protection records such as survey logs and radiation work permit entry and exit records.

· May lead and direct the work of Radiation Safety Technician 1 and 2 staff.

· Provides training to Radiation Safety Technician 1 and 2 staff as needed.

· Responsible for ensuring Radiation Safety Technician 1 and 2 staff are qualified to perform their work.

· Responsible for the safety performance of other radiation safety technicians.

Participates in the Radiation Safety Program by ensuring the safe collection, storage, packaging, transportation and subsequent disposal of radioactive material. These tasks are necessary to maintain a healthy workforce thereby enabling EnergySolutions to reach its performance goals and stay competitive in the marketplace. Performs other duties as assigned.
