EnergySolutions is the most experienced operator of LLRW disposal sites in the U.S.
EnergySolutions operates two commercial low-level radioactive waste (LLRW) disposal facilities—one in South Carolina and the other in Utah. Both facilities dispose of waste from commercial and government generators.
The Barnwell facility is owned by the State of South Carolina and operated by EnergySolutions. Barnwell has been in operation since 1971 without interruption and is licensed to dispose of Class A, B, and C low-level wastes.
EnergySolutions is the owner-operator of the Clive facility, which has been in operation since 1988 and is licensed to dispose of Class A low-level waste only.
EnergySolutions operates LLRW disposal facilities, vaults, and landfills on the DOE Oak Ridge Reservation in Tennessee and Savannah River Site in South Carolina.
The DOE Environmental Management Waste Management Facility in Oak Ridge is described by prime contractor Bechtel Jacobs as the “cornerstone of the Oak Ridge clean-up program.” EnergySolutions designed, constructed, and has operated the site for the DOE since 2002.
EnergySolutions operates state-permitted sanitary/construction demolition debris landfills, provides post-closure maintenance of one state-permitted landfill, provides periodic operation of a classified waste landfill, and is responsible for closure of a completed Class IV facility. In addition, EnergySolutions performs site maintenance for adjacent environmental management sites.
